These kids want to look up to you and want to be like you – they admire everything you do so don’t feel pressured, just be yourself and you will be amazing

Last summer I travelled to California to be an inclusion counsellor at an American Jewish summer camp. From day one I fell in love with camp; I loved the people, the community, the values, the campers and the lifestyle. Camp completely transformed my life, it gave me confidence, validation and many skills I didn’t even know I needed. From the second I left camp last summer I knew I would be returning to camp.

Unfortunately, my camp was cancelled due to Covid-19. I felt extremely lost with what to do with my summer. When I got the opportunity to work at CBF online, I was hesitant. How could camp work online? How would you form the same relationships online? How would you create fun activities for campers to do online?

I have now finished staff week and have been blown away by what CBF have been able to create. I have formed amazing connections to both British and American staff, the entire CBF online community is constantly praising and boosting each other’s confidence. The leadership staff have been amazingly helpful at getting everyone to feel included and positive about themselves and it is a pleasure to be a part of.

When I started CBF online I expected it just to be a job. This couldn’t have been further from the reality. The online platform that they are using makes it so easy for campers and counsellors to move from room to room, as well as communicate, participate and enjoy activities. Every day I am excited for the 3:30pm camp start and I am looking forward to meeting all of the campers and working to provide them with a meaningful and life-changing summer experience.
